Notes on Life
Two people may have different feelings after walking away from the same experience. One might see the lesson, one might sulk in the corner.

The Genesis of the Non-Alcoholic Psychedelic Pogi
There is nothing much you can do while sitting in a bus on the ride back home. These moment, however, I spend doing either of two things: reading and contemplating. Lately, though, I've been using the time inside the bus to discipline my mind and keep my thoughts pure. It was during these times that I thought of putting everything in paper. But I am lazy, always want my hands free (or idle, maybe), that I refuse to bring anything to the office except my lunch. Now committed in memory, I will attempt to write the thoughts that help me make it home. These thoughts that help me on the path, on the way, and on the ultimate journey.
Till then.

Urban Haiku
Deep and profound thoughts
in seventeen syllables,
five, seven, and five.
Catching Up, Moving On
Time flies. The last post was written when I was in Lucena City, Quezon. After Lucena I went back to Manila to work for NATCCO. Now I work with PHANSuP. Like Odysseus to Ithaca, I feel I am home.
Plans, plans, plans for my left and right brain. I intend to start a string of haikus on city life, urban living, and urban thoughts, in motime of course. Outside motime, I intend to write a novel. A couple of chapters have been posted online.
Towing you with me, turning a new leaf.

Matagal ka na nilang niloloko Dumadami ang may kotse
Dito sa university
Tumataas ang tuition fee
Bumababa ang quality Forget na lang the land reform
Forget the debt moratorium
Forget na rin the behest loan
But don't forget the condom Oy alam ko na Eddie

Gumaganda't umuusad

Roseola Infantum
On the first evening that Raja and me were apart after our four-day stay in the Orchid Garden Suites, Raja's temperature reached 40°C. This was followed by the sudden appearance of reddish spots behind his ears, on his cheeks, and on his brows. Ever the clueless father, I did not know at first what his condition was. I was later told that it was tigdas hangin. Now what on earth is that? Ever the paranoid father, I searched for it in Google and voila! Tigdas hangin, according to the NetDoctor, is actually Roseola Infantum, also called exanthematous fever and three-day-rash.
For those interested, you have nothing to worry about this disease. Barring any stupidity on the guardian's part, roseola infantum will go away after a few days. There is no known vaccine for this disease. The causative organism is the human herpesvirus (HHV-6). There is no sexual difference in HHV-6 infection, meaning that both boys and girls may get this virus. This is according to emedicine.
I just called Raja, and as always, he is in high spirits, giggling away roseola infantum.

Checking In
I really am thankful that PHSSA allowed my family to be with me during the first day of an activity we, PHSSA, co-organized with UPManila. Tonight Debbie and the kids will be staying with me in the hotel. I never imagined that one day this would happen. Raja was just too glad it did. A while ago, while we were checking in, he was already looking at the swimming pool and calling my attention saying "'Go! `Go!" 'Go is Rajaspeak for ligo which in English means 'to take a bath'. Ironically, only hours ago, he refused to wear his life jacket while we were fitting it on him. Naja was asleep when I went out to buy bottled water. I came back up and again left for the PHSSA office. By that time, Naja is already awake and Raja was watching the TV. Where was Debbie while these things were happening? She was just right there, beside our daughter, quiet and smiling.

Genius in Training
He was vested with the title "Youngest Mensa Party Attendee Ever". Raja, yet again, escaped from the confines of our house to attend the welcome party for newly qualified Mensans in the Philippines. He whined and dined with brightest people this side of the Far East. He watched me play chess with one of them, he went in and out of the playhouse. He played with the sculptured bush in the shape of a horse (his favorite animal). He climbed the monkey bars, tried the swing, watched stone geese wallowing in the fountain. He played puzzles, smashed blocks, threw tantrums.
At our drive home, he cried because of the traffic and because of not being able to alit whenever he sees Jollibee or McDonald. He really doesn't want to eat there, just to say "Hi!" to the mascots.

And yes, before I forget, he is one year and five months old.
